COMPOSITIONS FOR BIG BAND

These are original compositions of various levels of difficulty (see descriptions).  My preference is to send music at PDF files for the buyer to print - thus a low price.

CORRE CHICA ($40): This won a jazz  composition award.  It has been recorded by a number of college and university bands.  Requires a drummer with a Jazz-Samba beat.  Solos can be assigned.

HAPPY THOUGHTS ($30):  On Happy Thoughts CD.  Big band swinging.  Requires strong band. Fun to play.  

​WISHES ($30): Requires a soprano sax.  Optional soprano or tenor sax solo.  The chart has a modal melody and builds to easily understood climax.  A color or mood chart.  Recording available.

KAREN'S SONG ($30): on Happy Thoughts CD.  Trumpet solo - though some school bands have transposed it for alto sax solo.  A rock ballad with a pretty melody.

THEME FOR A LOVE STORY ($30): on Happy Thoughts CD.  Alto sax ballad feature.  Lush melody.  Good vehicle for training band to hear lush chords with extensions and alterations.

TRUMPETS CALIENTE ($30): Recorded by the Dick Cully Band.  A Bossa Nova featuring four trumpets.  Each gets short improv spaces but optional solos are written out.  First trumpet to high C at end.

SAMBA DE ORO ($30): On Happy Thoughts CD.  Jazz-Samba.  Soprano sax and trumpet solos.  Others possible.  Very happy tune.  Performed at Clark Terry Jazz Camps, by Marvin Stamm in Switzerland and by various military bands.

​SONG FOR TWO TRUMPETS ($30):  On Happy Thoughts CD.  Ballad.  Requires two trumpet players who can play with a pretty tone.  First trumpet up to high D.  

​BONE AMIS ($30): On Happy Thoughts CD.  Features trombone section in swinging romp.  Solos can be assigned.

​LITTLE WILLIE ($30): Swinging Trumpet feature written for Willie Thomas.  Melody constructed of pentatonics in many keys.  Recorded by U of Florida Jazz Ensemble.

EBONY DANCE ($30): On Happy Thoughts CD.  Clarinet feature in the style of Artie Shaw or

Benny Goodman but with a swinging contemporary big band.

STREET CHASE ($30): Very fast and swinging.  A run down the street with the cops chasing you.
